I’m writing this just after midnight on Friday. Here are a few glimpses of what it’s like to be in my house tonight, on Devil’s Night.

What is it about this holiday that I love? I’m asked this question every fall.
I’ve realized it’s that element of the unexpected that this time of year brings. Usually I don’t like surprises, but in October, I eagerly await them, whether I’m groping my way through the darkness of a haunted house or turning down candy aisles at the drugstore.
Mundane daily routines like driving down a neighborhood street instantly transform into magic at the sight of a carved jack-o-lantern or the first chords of “Werewolves of London” on the radio. I come alive when I experience these unanticipated thrills, and during this season they are lurking around every corner.
Tonight is a full moon, the first one to fall on October 31st in 19 years. May its brightness bring you some joy in an otherwise dark and uncertain year. I hope that everyone who sees this has an incredible Halloween!! And, as always, thank you for reading. –K.O.

Love your blog every year. Where did you find that spider door hanging?
Thanks so much for reading! I got the spider door hanging on the Victorian Trading Company site years ago; not sure if they still sell it. Hope you had a good Halloween!
Beautiful decorations! And I laughed a little at those pumpkin string lights. I’ve had them forever
and love them. Been with me through several moves. Nice to see your attic still rocks too!
Until next year, thanks K.O.
Thanks, Rick!! Hope you had a great Halloween. š
Hope your Halloween was a magical one, despite the strange 2020 twist.
We drank your suggested beverage at night after the kiddos were in bed and it was indeed DELICIOUS.
Happy Halloween, K.O.!
