Wicked Good

Quick: who’s your favorite Great British Baking Show contestant??

Well, if it’s not Helena Garcia from season 7, it should be.

From Helena’s Instagram.

This self-proclaimed “Halloween lover” found a way to shoehorn spookiness into each baking challenge, bless her witchy little heart.

For example, check out her creations for Biscuit Week (when everyone else was making shortbread):

Forgive the quality of these pics; Netflix wouldn’t let me take screenshots.

And look at her cephalopod submission for Roaring 20s Week:

Not to mention her entry for Bread Week, which was an edible cauldron full of pumpkin-shaped loaves!:

Anyway, Helena, the one and only Goth Great British Baker, just released a cookbook that features recipes for charmingly chilling desserts. It costs about $18 on Amazon, and comes highly recommended by my great friend Ruby, guest blogger and librarian!

The book includes recipes for “mummified eclairs, some cinnamon buns that look shockingly like brains, a batch of cookie bats, [and] a scarily impressive haunted tree cake,” according to the Amazon description.

And speaking of the Great British Baking Show, fans will be happy to hear that the first episode of season 8 just dropped on Netflix. So on your marks, get set, BAKE!

  1. CooL! GO Helena! Baking shows and high end cake making are actually some of my favorite shows to watch. Secretly want to be an high end cake maker so as to sculpt cakes. Any baking with a goth theme makes the entire baking genre even more delicious . . .

  2. Hey thanks for giving the head’s up on season 8! We’ve missed that show!!

Helena was definitely persistent in her pursuit of Halloweenifying every bake. She was fun to watch!!

    Personally I’m a Steph Blackwell fan! ;D
