Quick List! 5 things I love about the Simpsons annual Halloween specials (a.k.a. the “Treehouse of Horror” episodes):

1. The credits, including the creepy versions of the theme song (e.g., this one, which features a theremin)…

2. Any time Flanders is evil…

"Just let the hooks do their work..." -Flanders, the unquestioned ruler of the world.

3. The darkened sky of Springfield (it happens at least once each Halloween episode; watch the clouds)…

4. Horror movie spoofs (they’ve riffed on everything from The Shining to I Know What You Did Last Summer)…

5. Seeing the characters in costume…

Homer and Marge as the Flintstones! So meta.

Good news about 2013’s “Treehouse”: It airs early (this Sun, 10/6)! Also, the opening “couch gag” was created by film director Guillermo del Toro this year.

And PS, here’s a website that allows you to stream any episode of the series for free! If you want to see the Halloween episodes in particular, just type the word treehouse in the search box. 😉  Update: This site has just been shut down.
